XtalPi Partners with Janssen Biotech to Accelerate Biologics Discovery Using AI

XtalPi AI platform XtalFold used in licensing deal with Janssen Biotech for biologics discovery

AI-driven drug discovery firm XtalPi has entered into a licensing agreement between its division, Ailux Biologics, and Janssen Biotech, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The agreement grants Janssen a non-exclusive license to utilize XtalPi’s proprietary XtalFold platform, an AI-based software designed to accelerate the discovery and engineering of biologics. The deal was facilitated by Johnson & Johnson Innovation.

XtalFold offers advanced modeling of biomolecular interactions using only sequence data, a capability crucial for developing biotherapeutics like monoclonal antibodies.

The platform has been benchmarked to perform at state-of-the-art levels, particularly in accurately modeling difficult regions such as antibody-antigen interfaces. Since its launch, XtalFold has been validated in more than 30 partner and internal programs, proving its efficacy in a range of applications, including antigen design, epitope identification, and bispecifics design.

Yi (Alex) Li, Vice President of XtalPi and Head of Ailux Biologics, highlighted the platform’s transformative potential: "XtalFold enables real-time visualization and design of biologics in 3D space, a process that traditionally could take months. We are excited to share this technology with Janssen."

XtalPi, founded in 2015 by postdoctoral physicists from MIT, combines quantum physics, AI, cloud computing, and robotics to offer innovative R&D solutions across life sciences and materials industries. Its division, Ailux Biologics, focuses on large molecule drug discovery, utilizing AI platforms like XtalFold to help pharmaceutical companies accelerate biologics innovation.
