Mumbai University is teaming up with leading hospitals like Tata Memorial and Nanavati to develop artificial intelligence (AI) models for early disease detection in women. The project aims to reduce the disease burden and improve screening rates by combining academic research with healthcare practices.

Through AI, the team plans to create predictive models for early diagnosis and treatment of common women's health conditions. For example, researchers at Mumbai University are using AI models to better understand the factors behind polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition influenced by stress, lifestyle, and diet.

By identifying these factors, AI could help doctors diagnose PCOS earlier and suggest personalized lifestyle changes for prevention.

Furthermore, the university’s team, guided by experts from partnering hospitals, is also exploring AI for early detection of life-threatening conditions like breast cancer, cervical cancer, and tuberculosis.

The project, initially funded by the PM-USHA scheme, is seeking further support from government agencies and private investors to expand. Beyond women's health, Mumbai University aims to use AI to analyze regional disease outbreaks, helping prepare healthcare systems with timely supplies of medicines and equipment.

Additionally, the university has recently signed MoUs with Purdue University and Saint Louis University, and plans to collaborate with IIT-Bombay, which is working on similar AI healthcare projects.
