Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) company xAI has unveiled an image-generation application programming interface (API).
The image-generation API enables developers and businesses to integrate AI-powered image creation into their applications. The offering competes with OpenAI’s DALL-E and Stability AI’s tools.
Grok-2-Image-1212 supports up to 10 images per request
Grok-2-Image-1212 remains available through the xAI image-generation API.
The model can generate up to 10 images per request, with a rate limit of five requests per second. Each image costs $0.07, and the images are delivered in JPG format.
xAI’s image-generation API has limited controls
According to xAI’s documentation, the API does not allow users to adjust image quality, size, or style.
xAI’s documentation also states that prompts submitted through the API may be modified by a “chat model.” Prompts first pass through a chat model for review before processing.

During a live-streamed appearance at a Dubai technology conference, Musk said that Grok 3, the next big version of Grok, was scheduled to be released within the next several weeks.
Reports also indicated that xAI was in discussions with investors for a potential $10 billion funding round, which could raise its valuation to $75 billion.
