Krutrim Partners With Lenovo to Build India’s Largest Supercomputer for AI Expansion
Ola Krutrim and Lenovo have built India’s largest supercomputer, powered by Krutrim’s cloud infrastructure.
The project is part of Krutrim’s work on indigenous AI technologies. The company is also developing its own foundational models and an indigenous AI chip.
Krutrim and Lenovo’s India’s Largest Supercomputer
Speaking at Lenovo TechWorld India 2025 in Mumbai, Ola Group Chief Information Officer Navendu Agarwal said Krutrim was working with Lenovo on the supercomputer, which would run on Krutrim’s cloud infrastructure.
“We are building the largest infrastructure and again very proud to say along with Lenovo, we are building the largest supercomputer of India. That will be powered in our cloud. Then we are also building the foundational models and our own chip,” Agarwal said.
Krutrim was also developing its third model, Krutrim 3, which was to be trained on 700 billion parameters. Its first model was built on 7 billion parameters, while the second was built on 12 billion.
“We are very proud to say that we are working on a bigger model, Krutrim 3, which will be a 700 Bn parameter model, which will be an answer from India to show that we can build the best. And we are very proud to partner with Lenovo in this endeavour,” Agarwal added.
Krutrim had a 700-member team dedicated to AI development and was working on full-stack AI offerings. These included AI-powered applications for contact centers, manufacturing, and cloud-based agentic platforms for startups and enterprises. The initiative aligned with the company’s broader goal of making AI technology more accessible in India.

The announcement followed Aggarwal’s commitment of INR 2,000 crore to Krutrim, with an additional INR 10,000 crore planned for the next year. Krutrim had also filed a proposal under the IndiaAI Mission, a government-backed initiative with a budget exceeding INR 10,000 crore that was aimed at advancing AI infrastructure in India.
Lenovo’s India Manufacturing and R&D Plans
At the same event, Lenovo India Managing Director Shailendra Katiyal said the company aimed to produce all its personal computers in India within the next three years. Lenovo manufactured 30% of its PCs locally, with plans to increase that figure to 50% the following year and 100% by 2028.
Lenovo’s first AI-powered servers were also set to roll out from its Indian manufacturing facility beginning April 1.
Lenovo was expanding its research and development operations in India and had announced a new R&D centre in Bengaluru. Mathew Zielinski, Lenovo’s President of International Markets, described the company’s plans for its India operations:
“Think about hardware, software, firmware, testing validation…all things that are required to build a successful future-proof and advanced product line will take place in India,” he said.
As India positions itself as a global AI hub, collaborations like the Krutrim-Lenovo partnership highlight the increasing focus on developing indigenous AI infrastructure to reduce reliance on foreign technology and strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem.
