- Worldcoin aims for mass adoption, focusing on the widespread distribution of iris-scanning Orbs to boost network value.
- Next-gen Orb device updates coming soon, with potential changes to operational models and partnerships with Korean gaming companies.
- Worldcoin prepares to launch World Chain, an Optimism-based Layer-2 network, to handle the growing scale of operations.
At Korea Blockchain Week 2024 in Seoul on Wednesday, Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania emphasized that Worldcoin's primary goal is to distribute iris-scanning "Orbs" widely to enhance the project's scalability and utility.
Blania explained that, like PayPal or Facebook, such networks become truly valuable only once they reach a critical mass of users. Therefore, the company’s focus is on expanding global distribution and increasing the number of verified users.
Furthermore, he revealed that exciting updates about the next-generation Orb device will be announced soon, focusing on changes to its operational models that could significantly impact how the devices are used. Blania also mentioned ongoing talks with South Korean gaming companies for potential partnerships.
Additionally, Worldcoin is preparing to launch its Layer-2 network, World Chain, and has formed new partnerships with blockchain firms like Hyperlane and Moralis to enhance user experience. “World Chain is an Optimism super-chain, much like Coinbase’s Base,” Blania explained, noting that the launch is necessary due to the scale of their operations surpassing the capacity of the Optimism mainnet.
Worldcoin, part of Tools for Humanity founded by Blania and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, issues "World IDs" to people who scan their irises on an Orb device. This ID aims to safeguard individuals from potential artificial intelligence (AI) risks. Users receive WLD cryptocurrencies in exchange. The project has verified over 6.5 million World IDs in more than 160 countries.
