Ireland-based healthcare company, Medtronic is investing $60 million to set up a new global IT center (GIT) in Hyderabad. The new GIT will concentrate on advanced technologies including cloud engineering, data platforms, digital health applications, hyper-automation, and AI/ML.
“India offers one of the best talent pools for IT. We look forward to leveraging the skillset to support the growth of healthcare technology and positively impact patient lives,” said Rashmi Kumar, senior vice president & CIO, Medtronic.
The GIT will be housed within the Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Centre (MEIC), established by Medtronic, earlier in 2020, investing around $500 million in setting up, in Hyderabad.
“This new center will be pivotal in supporting innovations, enhancing our global IT capabilities, and delivering top-notch tech-driven healthcare solutions,” Divya Joshi, vice president & MEIC site leader, Medtronic stated.
Over the next three to five years, GIT, Medtronic's first major IT facility outside the US, aims to create approximately 300 jobs. The company has already hired 60 employees for the new 65,000 sq ft GIT, which includes labs for automation work, according to Rashmi Kumar.
