Instagram Reels 'Spins' feature for collaborative video creation

Instagram is currently working on a new feature named "Spins" for Reels, their short video platform similar to TikTok. This innovative feature, uncovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, will give users the ability to modify the text or audio in Reels made by others.

Instagram has clarified that Spins is still in the internal prototype stage and is not yet being tested externally.

This feature has the potential to kickstart trends by allowing users to create templates that can be personalized with their creative flair. For example, if someone designs a popular template, others can tweak the text or audio to fit different scenarios.

According to a screenshot shared by Paluzzi, creators will be acknowledged for their original Reels whenever someone creates a Spin based on it, helping them expand their audience.

The screenshot also indicates that users will have the choice to activate or deactivate the feature for individual Reels using a "Spins" toggle before posting.

Spins set itself apart from Reels' "Remix" feature, which is essentially a replica of TikTok's duet function. Spins promote more collaborative fun and creativity among users.

If introduced, it would provide Reels users with a distinctive experience compared to TikTok. The timeline for when or if Instagram will roll out Spins to the public remains uncertain.
