The Ethereum Protocol Security (EPS) Research Team has recently announced the launch of the Ethereum Protocol Attackathon, hosted by Immunefi, an onchain crowdsourced security platform.
The Attackathon represents a first-time collaborative effort, which aims to be the largest crowdsourced security audit contest ever, designed to enhance the security of the entire protocol's code.
According to the announcement, this four-week event aims to improve the security of the Ethereum protocol through a large-scale, crowdsourced security audit competition. The goal is to raise over $2 million for the reward pool, with the EF contributing an initial $500,000.
“We invite the entire Ethereum community — from projects to individual developers — to participate in this important event. Contributions to the reward pool will directly enhance the security of the Ethereum ecosystem, fostering a safer environment for users and developers,” reads Ethereum’s announcement.

Immunefi runs the largest web3 security community with over 45,000 researchers. It protects more than $190 billion in user funds for major projects like Chainlink, Wormhole, MakerDAO, TheGraph, Synthetix, Polygon, and Optimism. Additionally, it has awarded over $100 million in bug bounties and saved over $25 billion in user funds. It currently offers more than $161 million in bounty rewards.
