Former FTX Execs Nishad Singh, Gary Wang Set for Sentencing

Singh's sentencing is expected to be on October 30, 2024, while Wang's is expected to be on November 20, 2024, in the Southern District of New York District Court.

  • Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, former FTX executives, will be sentenced in late 2024 for their roles in FTX's downfall.
  • Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison also pleaded guilty, but her sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.

Former FTX Director of Engineering Nishad Singh and former FTX Chief Technology Officer Gary Wang, who pleaded guilty to criminal charges and played a role in their boss Sam Bankman-Fried's conviction will be sentenced later this year.

Singh's sentencing is expected to be on October 30, 2024, while Wang's is expected to be on November 20, 2024, in the Southern District of New York District Court.

After FTX's massive collapse in late 2022, which shook the entire web3 industry, both Singh and Wang testified against Bankman-Fried in court. They revealed they learned about the wrongdoing at the exchange just before it went bankrupt.

Singh, an old high school classmate of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, pleaded guilty to four federal counts in February 2023. During Bankman-Fried's trial, Singh disclosed finding an $8 billion shortfall in the company's finances.

Wang, who is facing four charges such as conspiracy to commit wire fraud and securities fraud, testified against the defendants. He admitted to helping create parts of the FTX exchange website and provided code that falsely inflated the FTX 'public insurance fund'. This number was randomly generated and didn't reflect actual available liquidity. Wang cooperated with the FBI to make a prudent choice and avoid imprisonment.

Ryan Salame, another one of Bankman-Fried’s former associates, was recently sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison also pleaded guilty alongside Wang, but her sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.

In May, FTX submitted its amended Reorganization Plan and Disclosure Statement, proposing the centralized distribution of nearly all assets. The distribution plan includes assets managed by FTX's Chapter 11 debtors and those overseen by various entities.
