Elon Musk Plans India Visit for Talks with PM Modi Amid Tesla's Expansion Moves

Elon Musk is set to visit India for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, amidst reports of Tesla's negotiation with Reliance Industries for an EV manufacturing facility and Telangana's push to host the plant.

SpaceX and Tesla Motors chief, Elon Musk,  has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he will be visiting India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per a BBC report, Musk is expected to announce major investment plans in the country.

According to a report, Tesla is engaged in preliminary talks with Reliance Industries Ltd regarding a potential collaboration to establish an electric vehicle production plant in India. While Reliance's exact contribution is yet to be determined, Mukesh Ambani's group is anticipated to play a major role in supporting Tesla in setting up the manufacturing site and its related processes.

Additionally, State Industries and Commerce Minister D Sridhar Babu is making every effort to attract Tesla to set up its plant in the state of India. Indeed, he even wrote on X, inviting Musk to Telangana.

In a previous post on X, the minister highlighted the state's policy that is favorable to businesses. He mentioned that starting from December 2023, the Telangana government has been concentrating on attracting significant investments from international companies. Within this effort, they have been closely monitoring and evaluating Tesla's proposed investment activities in India. 

“Telangana with its Industry-friendly policy, is working with a progressive and futuristic vision by creating a world-class Infrastructure and hassle-free permissions system to enable best-in-class companies like TESLA to do business in Telangana, ” the mister further explained in the post. 

Meanwhile, Tesla has reportedly begun manufacturing right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles for the Indian market at its Germany-based facility in Gruenheide, near Berlin. This plant, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, is set to become an export center for RHD markets such as India.
