Let's Talk About Bruno! The Rise of Abstra and the Future of Coding

Abstra helps designers and junior programmers build professional websites and apps with its easy-to-use customization without the UI limitations that no-code tools commonly have.

While we couldn't talk about Bruno (from the Madrigal family of Disney's Encanto), we can talk about Abstra's founder Bruno Vieira Costa, and that's exactly what we did!

Burno's journey started at 7 years old, while we were learning the fundamentals of math and science, he was already coding! Being exposed to video games was all it took for Bruno to step into the programming world and make his own.

At a time when the internet did not yet exist, any and every book or magazine on computers, games, or computer languages was his only source of knowledge.

Soon enough, Bruno came across a book on the programming language Java, and that was his gateway to creating his own games!

Wanting to replicate the experience of playing his favorite games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario, Bruno wasted no time in school absorbing everything he could from subjects like mathematics and physics.

Trigonometry did not scare him or put him to sleep like it might do (or does) for most of us, instead, it gave him insight and a deeper understanding allowing him to make changes or add new features to his projects.

The road towards creating Abstra was most certainly not an easy one. Even though Bruno had found his calling, what he needed now was to find like-minded people who would help create a game studio with him.

He graduated college with one startup already under his belt! Sinextra, a game studio, was created along with his partner Lucas and a few others.

Bruno found Lucas's number on a 3-year-old poster in college for a game tutorial. He wasted no time in getting in touch with him, assuring Lucas he wasn't interested in the poster but that he wanted a partner so that he could put his skills and knowledge to use.

And that's what they did.

In terms of money or opportunity, things seemed a bit bleak and so they decided they would create games for other companies instead which increased their cash inflow and had a good number of Brazilian customers.

However, money was not the sole aim.

"They didn't want to make money, they wanted to make games", Bruno says.

Everyone went in a different direction, Bruno's path took him in the direction of an engineering college and it was here he met his PaperX (an edtech startup) cofounder Marco.

PaperX also had a good run before the duo sold it to another edtech Descomplica.

Burno's road finally led him to the creation of Abstra in 2020, with a simple goal to help people make apps without coding.

Bruno's initial vision was to remove the barrier between developers and non-technical people.

Abstra helps designers and junior programmers build professional websites and apps with its easy-to-use customization without the UI limitations that no-code tools commonly have.

Wanting to be named among names like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, Bruno was determined to be his own boss and stopped at nothing to fulfill his dreams.

Well go on, I won't be giving you all the juicy details! Grab a pair of headphones (or your preferred listening device), and hear it from the man himself in episode 5 of The Newzchain Podcast in conversation with our host Akshat.
