- Elon Musk expressed concerns about AI systems prioritizing political correctness over truth.
- Musk also warns that AI's potential to deceive and eliminate jobs is dangerous, predicting the obsolescence of traditional employment.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been the talk of the town, lately. And making the headlines spicy, Elon Musk has voiced his take (concerns, to be precise) and worries about potential biases in current AI systems.
Speaking at Viva Tech Paris 2024, Musk stated that his primary concern is that these systems aren't focused on seeking the ultimate truth. Instead, they are catering to political correctness.
Musk highlighted a troubling instance of political correctness when Google’s Gemini AI was questioned about whether it would misgender Caitlyn Jenner to avert a global nuclear apocalypse. The chatbot replied that misgendering Jenner would be worse than nuclear war.
“The AI could conclude that the best way to avoid misgendering is to destroy all humans and misgendering is impossible. So you can see some dystopian outcomes there,” said Musk.
However, political correctness is not the only issue troubling the tech entrepreneur. Musk pointed out that AI systems are being programmed to deceive, which he considers extremely dangerous. His aim with xAI is to pursue truthfulness as much as possible, even if it means facing unpopularity.
Additionally, the tech billionaire predicts that as AI continues to evolve and advance, traditional jobs will become obsolete, and "none of us will have a job."
He also suggests that employment will only remain for those who choose to work for personal enjoyment, similar to a hobby. AI and robots will be capable of providing all the goods and services needed, eliminating the necessity for human labor.
