San Francisco-based XRobotics has developed the xPizza Cube, a countertop pizza-making robot that applies sauce, cheese, and pepperoni with machine learning precision.

Roughly the size of a stackable washing machine, the xPizza Cube can produce up to 100 pizzas per hour and adapts to various pizza styles, including Detroit and Chicago deep dish.

Co-founder and CEO Denis Rodionov says the robot saves staff 70-80% of the time spent on repetitive tasks like placing pepperoni slices. Unlike earlier, larger machines, the compact design fits existing kitchens and is affordable for both mom-and-pop shops and large chains.

Launched in its current form in 2023, the xPizza Cube has already helped produce 25,000 pizzas monthly, though the company hasn’t disclosed its total customer count.

XRobotics recently raised $2.5 million in seed funding led by FinSight Ventures to scale production and expand installations.

The startup aims to tackle labour shortages and reduce ingredient waste, especially costly items like cheese, while maintaining consistent quality. XRobotics plans to expand beyond the U.S. into Mexico and Canada, targeting the vast pizza market of over 73,000 U.S. chains.

Rodionov shares a personal passion for pizza, noting extensive testing across major U.S. cities and favouring Detroit-style pizza for its unique crust and shape.
