TalMal closes pre-seed funding to scale salary-backed purchasing

Saudi fintech startup TalMal has closed an undisclosed pre-seed funding round with participation from MM Partners.

The investment marks TalMal's move from product development and business-model validation into commercial expansion, with the company planning to grow its network of employers, merchants and employee users across Saudi Arabia.

Founded in 2023 by Thamer Faisal Al-Qu'ayshish, TalMal is developing a salary-backed flexible purchasing platform.

The model connects three parties: employees gain access to purchasing capacity linked to their salaries, employers facilitate repayment, and participating merchants gain access to a pool of employees with available purchasing capacity.

The company is building the technology infrastructure to manage purchasing, repayment and interactions across all three parties through a single digital platform, rather than operating solely as a deferred-payment product.

TalMal is part of Jada30, an incubation programme affiliated with Saudi Arabia's Social Development Bank, where it has been developing its business model and technology.

The startup has also been building integrations and commercial partnerships around its model, including collaborations with Foodics, 360Solutions and Talento HRMS.

MM Partners said TalMal's ability to connect employees, employers and merchants within a single model was among the factors behind its investment.

The new funding will support TalMal's plans to expand its corporate and merchant network, strengthen its technology infrastructure and reach a larger base of employees in Saudi Arabia.
