Satcom Licences in India: What the Framework Means

Satcom licences in India
India’s authorisation framework for telecom and satellite services is “fair and non-discriminatory”, according to the government. Any suggestion that it was being applied selectively was described as “baseless and misconceived”.
Who it affects
Starlink, Reliance Jio’s satellite venture Jio Satcom and Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb have secured satcom licences. The three entities can start operations after individually meeting the security requirements and milestones.
The dispute highlights tensions over satellite broadband competition, consumer choice and the regulatory framework governing services in India.
