Murati is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at OpenAI, an AI research and deployment company, leading the teams behind DALL-E, which uses AI to generate digital images based on prompts, and ChatGPT, the AI chatbot which has gained a large amount of popularity in the past few months.

She has been passionate about artificial intelligence since the beginning of her career, and it was at Tesla that she began to truly work with the technology. Later, at Leap Motion, she refocused more on augmented reality, before diving back into AI at OpenAI.

When did she join OpenAI?

Murati joined OpenAI 5 years back, in 2018 as the VP of Applied AI and Partnerships. By this time, OpenAI was already ramping up research work and drawing up bigger bills than they could eventually handle. In 2019, OpenAI transformed from a non-profit organization to a profit-making entity.

Murati then moved up the ladder to become a Senior Vice President of Product and Partnerships in the company before becoming the Chief Technology Officer a few months ago.

In an interview with Time, she is reassuring about the supposed dangers of AI:

"There are ... a ton of questions around societal impact, and there are a lot of ethical and philosophical questions that we need to consider. And it's important that we bring in different voices, like philosophers, social scientists, artists, and people from the humanities."

She not only serves as a reassuring figure for the public but in addition to being a trailblazer when it comes to excelling in her field and challenging age-old norms and beliefs.
