Mudhal VC Plans to Back 20+ D2C Startups from Tamil Nadu in 3 Years

Mudhal VC, the family office of Kissflow founder and chief executive Suresh Sambandam, plans to invest in more than 20 startups in the next three years, with five deals expected to close in the near term.
The program is designed as a Y Combinator-style initiative combining mentorship and financial support. It backs idea-stage and early-startups from Tamil Nadu, with investments averaging Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 50 lakh and up to Rs 1 crore. The family office has allocated 25 crore in personal capital, with a possible Rs 100 crore raise later.
What Mudhal VC Does
Mudhal VC is sector-agnostic but has focused on direct-to-consumer (D2C), quick-service restaurants (QSR) and AI. It provides initial risk capital to help startups find markets and scale their businesses. For startups requiring more capital, it facilitates larger rounds by bringing in other venture capital firms as co-investors.

Mudhal VC has invested in 14 companies. Its portfolio startups include Booking Bee, Meen Satti, Mushroom Mama and Pick My Ad. The firm is also focused on bringing successful companies in areas such as consumer tech, where Tamil Nadu has a considerable gap.
It is operated as a family office using personal capital to avoid exposing limited partners to early risk. Mudhal VC may register as an alternative investment firm depending on results over the next three years.
“Currently it is operated as a family office using personal capital to avoid exposing limited partners to early risk. We are focused on the highest-risk phase, idea validation and actively mentoring founders to reach the product-market fit (PMF). We work with various startups through our Idea Pattarai program and offer pitch teardowns, deep dives and one on one support,” Aravind Suresh, managing partner at Mudhal VC, said.
