Makr Microsystems raises Rs 10.2 Cr seed round from Bluehill VC

Bengaluru-based semiconductor metrology startup Makr Microsystems has raised Rs 10.2 crore in a seed round led by frontier-tech VC firm Bluehill VC, with participation from Artha Venture Fund.

Founded by Ashwin Lal, Makr is developing nanoscale 3D subsurface metrology technology that allows chipmakers to see and measure hidden structures and defects beneath semiconductor surfaces without damaging the chip.

Its technology combines Acoustic Atomic Force Microscopy (AAFM), optical tomography and 3D data analytics.

Bluehill VC claims Makr fits its focus on backing deeptech companies solving difficult problems in critical technology sectors. The fund recently closed its maiden fund at Rs 400 crore.

The proceeds will be used for technology development, customer validation and commercialisation. Its initial applications include advanced packaging, hybrid bonding, buried interfaces, chiplet interconnects and defect detection.

Makr plans to build globally relevant semiconductor equipment and technology from India as chip architectures become increasingly complex and more manufacturing processes move into three-dimensional structures.
