IndiaAI Mission: MeitY seeks providers for 10,000 AI units

Who it affects
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, or C-DAC, has issued a Request for Empanelment inviting AI Service Providers to supply up to 10,000 AI Compute Units under the IndiaAI Mission. The units can include GPUs, TPUs, accelerators and similar hardware used for AI workloads.
C-DAC is the implementing agency for the IndiaAI Mission’s AI computing infrastructure. The capacity is intended for ministries, departments, academia, research institutions, startups, industry and other eligible users, based on demand received by C-DAC.
The RFE allows C-DAC to scale total capacity beyond 10,000 AI Compute Units during the empanelment period if demand requires it. The source does not specify how much of the capacity will be procured in the first round.
The planned capacity may support large-scale AI model training, fine-tuning, inference, high-performance computing and other emerging AI workloads.

The RFE requires infrastructure, data, metadata, logs, backups and disaster recovery to remain within India. Providers must also follow data localisation laws and other Indian rules on where data is stored and processed.
C-DAC’s data must be physically and logically isolated from other customers. Providers must prevent unauthorised access, use, sharing or transfer of C-DAC’s data and other digital assets.
The RFE describes clusters of 4,000, 1,000 or 512 units, or other configurations specified in Stage-2. Each cluster must contain at least 512 AI Computing Units at a single data centre in India, with capacity spread across multiple locations.
