Google introduces an upgrade to Bard, its generative AI chatbot and ChatGPT rival, incorporating the advanced Gemini AI model. The update promises enhanced reasoning, planning, understanding, and other capabilities. 

The Gemini model, available in Ultra, Pro, and Nano versions, will be phased into Bard, starting with Gemini Pro in English across 170 countries and expanding to additional languages and regions.

Subject to industry benchmarks, Gemini outperformed GPT-3.5 in six out of eight metrics, showcasing improved performance in multitasking language understanding and math reasoning.

The Bard upgrade aims to boost its content understanding, summarization, brainstorming, writing, and planning capabilities. While Gemini Pro initially powers text-based prompts, Bard will later support multimodal capabilities.

Bard advanced with Gemini Ultra to debut in 2024

In 2024, Bard Advanced will leverage Gemini Ultra, offering enhanced understanding across text, images, audio, video, and code. The multimodal reasoning capabilities of Gemini Ultra include generating high-quality code in popular programming languages. Google plans a trusted tester program before a broader launch, emphasizing additional safety checks for Bard Advanced.
