Another day, more Google job cuts. Ahead of Google's big annual I/O developer conference this month, the search giant has let go of about 200 employees from key teams such as Flutter, Dart, Python, and others.
Employees have taken to social media to share their disappointment. A product manager of Flutter and Dart said in a Reddit thread that the layoffs had affected a lot of teams and that lots of great projects lost people.
Another employee, a Product & DevRel lead at Flutter post on X, saying, “It’s really sad to see Google making this decision in light of the record high stock price ”
The Core unit at Google builds the technology for its main products and keeps user information safe. It includes IT, Python developers, infrastructure, security, app platforms, core developers, and other engineering teams.
According to CNBC, Asim Husain, the vice president of Google Developer Ecosystem, told his team about the job cuts in an email last week. He also mentioned at a town hall meeting that this would be the largest planned cut for his team this year, as shown in an internal document.
Additionally, reports suggest that Google plans to hire new workers for roles in India and Mexico.
