The global gaming market, valued at over $184 billion in 2023, continues to grow, with millions of trades occurring daily.
However, much like ordering a coffee and receiving only hot water, gamers often find themselves scammed, losing both money and prized virtual items.
From Beans to Brew: The Birth of GamerPay
Martin Lykke Suhr, the master barista, has been managing the largest Counter-Strike community in Northern Europe. But how did it all start?
He dealt with a deluge of players every day who had been conned out of their virtual goods; much like me and other coffee enthusiasts let down by a malfunctioning espresso machine.
He made this the purpose of the company and started with this journey to provide better solutions. Hence, Martin turned to his background in building transactional marketplaces.
After chatting with over 5,000 gamers across Europe—nearly half of whom had been scammed—he decided it was time to grind the beans and brew something new.
Thus, GamerPay was born in May 2021 along with Morten Byskov, Mathias Hermansen and Peter Haldbæk, promising a secure marketplace for trading gaming skins and assets.
