Fragaria Fruits in talks to raise ₹40 Cr led by Blume Ventures

Chennai-based agritech startup Fragaria Fruits is in talks to raise ₹40 Cr ($4.2 Mn) in a fresh funding round, sources told Inc42.

Blume Ventures will lead the funding round and will also see participation from Fragaria’s existing investors, including WEH Ventures and Rainmatter, among others, the sources added. The startup could potentially reach a valuation of ₹160 Cr post-investment.

Questions sent to Fragaria Fruits and Blume Ventures didn’t elicit any response at the time of publication. The story will be updated based on their responses.

The fresh capital infusion comes about 10 months after the startup raised $2 Mn in its seed funding led by WEH Ventures, with participation from Rainmatter, Spiral Ventures, and angel investor Akshayakalpa Organic founder Sashi Kumar.

What Fragaria Fruits does

Founded in 2024 by Harish Varadharajan, Timothy Chad Van Niekerk, and Damian López-Salazar, Fragaria Fruits is a Chennai-based agritech startup that uses indoor vertical farming to grow premium, pesticide-free strawberries year-round.

The startup operates entirely indoors in high-precision vertical farming systems, where every variable that influences plant growth light, temperature, humidity, nutrients, and irrigation is monitored and optimised.

Its flagship product is high-quality European strawberries, sold under its consumer brand Oh! Fruits. The brand claims that these strawberries are twice as sweet as the average Indian strawberry, comparable to the finest European produce.

Following a successful pilot farm in Chennai, Fragaria Fruits has been scaling its operations in Bengaluru since its $2 Mn fundraise, targeting a daily output of 120 kg of premium strawberries.

It has been constructing a large-scale commercial farm near Bengaluru and is also developing dedicated facilities for blueberries and raspberries, marking an entry into the broader premium berry category.

The broader agritech market

The brand is targeting the premium niche in the agritech market at a time when the broader industry is growing strongly.

According to Inc42 and StarAgri’s Indian Agritech Market Landscape Report, 2025, India’s agritech market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 25% to touch $28 Bn by 2030.
