The milestone behind KhetiBuddy’s farm data infrastructure

KhetiBuddy has digitised more than 250,000 acres across over 35 enterprise customers globally. The company is building farm data infrastructure that connects information from fields with the systems used by agribusinesses.

From enterprise software and crop health to Verdnt

Founded in 2021, KhetiBuddy was started by Vinay Nair and his co-founder and wife, Dr. Richa. Nair had spent years building enterprise technology through Aarialife Technologies, working with mid-sized and large businesses on SaaS platforms such as NetSuite and Zoho. Dr. Richa had built Aaria Biolife, a certified organic biologicals company that worked directly with farmers on crop health.

The founders encountered a gap in information about growing conditions, input usage, soil health and farming practices. This information was either unavailable or recorded in notebooks and disconnected spreadsheets. KhetiBuddy began by structuring farm-level data and connecting it with business systems. That work has evolved into Verdnt, the company’s AI-native platform.

In the founders’ words

“Think of Verdnt as the connective tissue between the farm and the boardroom,” Nair said. The platform captures information on planting, inputs, weather conditions, soil readings, crop development and harvest quality through field applications, IoT sensors, satellite imagery and integrations with farm management tools.

Funding rounds and cross-border capital moves, one email, five minutes.

“We have been largely bootstrapped, which has been a constraint but has also encouraged discipline,” Nair said. The company used revenue from his enterprise technology work and Richa’s biologicals business in its early days, before receiving external capital from a family office that had known their work.

Why farm data infrastructure matters

Verdnt is designed for mid-sized and large agribusinesses, including input companies managing farmer networks, food and beverage companies tracking supply bases, commodity traders requiring export traceability, plantation companies and agritech platforms. Its subscription model depends on acreage under management, enterprise users and modules deployed, with a white-label channel for partners.

The platform links farm management, supply chain, agri ERP, sustainability and DMRV functions with existing enterprise systems. Procurement teams may use farm-level information to verify quality at the source, sustainability teams to support reporting and agronomists to access historical information for decisions during the next growing season.

In one early deployment with a large winery, farm data was used to connect measurable growing practices with farmer incentives.
