Embraer Mahindra Partnership Targets India’s 60-Aircraft MTA

Embraer has partnered with Mahindra Group for India’s 60-aircraft Multi-Role Transport Aircraft programme, where it will offer the KC-390 Millennium jet.

The programme is going to replace the Indian Air Force’s ageing transport fleet, with an option to add 50% more aircraft. The Request for Proposal has been issued, and five companies have received it, including Mahindra, Tata, HAL, Reliance Defence and Adani.

What Embraer does

Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace firm. Its KC-390 Millennium could replace the AN-32 and help standardise the Indian Air Force’s medium transport fleet.

Separately, Embraer has partnered with Adani Group on its civilian aircraft business. The stated focus is increased demand for connectivity and regional flights. Adani may also become a partner for the military transport deal.

India as a hub for Embraer

Embraer said India is central to its supply-chain plans. The company wants to use India as a hub while expanding its global supply-chain and maintenance, repair and overhaul network.

“We would like to use India as a hub for us because, again, we need to expand our supply chain base and our MRO base because we are growing. I can’t support operators worldwide without growing my network from a global perspective. So that’s the reason we are watching this case here as a very strategic one for us,” Bosco Da Costa Junior said.
