Nutanix founder Ajeet Singh's new startup Different raises $48M

Ajeet Singh has announced the launch of Different, an AI martech startup that has raised $48 Mn in funding led by General Catalyst, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Different, Singh’s third venture, came out of stealth with the round. The company refined its system with early customers for a year before the launch.
A three-founder team behind Different
Different is an AI-powered martech startup that runs demand generation end-to-end for lean B2B marketing teams.
Former Asana executive Abhishek Pani and former PharmEasy chief technology and product officer Abhinav Yajurvedi have joined Singh as cofounders.
The startup has teams in San Francisco and Bengaluru, according to the company’s launch post.
Singh previously co-founded Nutanix, a hybrid cloud platform that listed on the Nasdaq in 2016, and launched AI-powered analytics platform ThoughtSpot after stepping down from Nutanix in 2012.
Singh has also worked at Oracle, Honeywell and PwC. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta.
“We believe that with the right AI system, a lean marketing team can scale the business without first building the large organization,”
Singh wrote in the company’s launch post.
Newsletter
The corridor, every morning.
Funding rounds and cross-border capital moves, one email, five minutes.
Different’s platform plans, creates, executes, and scales personalised content across channels in accordance with the business context, strategy, audience and other parameters specified by the user.
It also learns from the results and adjusts accordingly to optimise performance.
Marketers set goals, budgets and brand limits and approve campaigns. Different builds the ads, emails and landing pages, launches them across channels and carries what works into the next campaign.
Different aims to address bottlenecks that enterprises face when hiring specialised talent, engaging multiple external agencies and managing disparate software tools.
Before its public launch, Different tested its services with early corporate customers, including software firms Descope and Motif.
At Descope, a two-person marketing team runs up to seven programs at once across LinkedIn, email and landing pages, reaching 2,800 target accounts, and redirected 60% of paid spend that was being wasted on poor targeting.
Motif’s three-person marketing team went from running one campaign at a time to more than a dozen across four channels in a month.
