Cyber attacks, nowadays, are common in the crypto, blockchain, and the broader Web3 space. While the majority of these attacks are carried out to wipe out funds, many are also targeted with a different motive.
Recently, multiple hacks targeted X (formerly Twitter) accounts of crypto influencers and celebrities to promote various coins, causing brief price spikes.
Among the latest victims is Gigantic-Cassocked-Rebirth (GCR), a pseudonymous cryptocurrency investor known for profiting from contrarian trades. On May 26, GCR’s X account posted about ORDI and Luna2.0, causing their prices to momentarily surge by 6% and 274%, respectively.
Commenters noted that the hacker could have promoted a microcap coin for greater gains but instead chose to post about the two tokens, resulting in limited profits.
GCR, later, warned his followers on X as well.

Udi Wertheimer, a Bitcoin developer and Ordinals advocate, cautioned that the GCR incident might not be unique. It is part of a larger scheme targeting celebrity X accounts, including mumble rapper Rich the Kid and media personality Caitlyn Jenner.
