Celebrity Startup Investments in India: 49 Rounds, $458M Backed Since 2021

The $458 million figure represents the combined value of the 49 funding rounds in which the celebrities participated alongside other investors, not the amount deployed by the celebrities themselves.
The analysis, based on Tracxn data between January 2021 and September 4, 2026, covers ten film and sports personalities who participated in funding rounds across 34 India-headquartered startups.
Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra led the group with participation in 10 disclosed rounds, including three in packaged-food startup WickedGud. Cricketers MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar followed with six rounds each, while Shraddha Kapoor and Virat Kohli participated in five each.
Early-stage investing dominated the activity. Angel and seed rounds accounted for 55% of the 49 rounds, with more than four-fifths at Series A or earlier. Nine celebrity-company combinations, including Tendulkar-Spinny and Virat Kohli-Agilitas, accounted for nearly 45% of the total rounds.

Several investments have since reached significant milestones. Ed-a-Mamma and Shunya were acquired by Reliance entities; Honasa Consumer and Klassroom are listed; Purple Style Labs launched its IPO in August. Spinny is the sole unicorn in the set, while Sugar Cosmetics and XYXX are classified as soonicorns by Tracxn.
The data covers only disclosed-amount rounds and excludes undisclosed deals, making it a snapshot of visible celebrity investment activity rather than a measure of overall wealth or investment performance.
