CarbonStrong raises Rs 12.5 Cr seed round to scale low-carbon cement alternative

Climate-tech startup CarbonStrong has raised Rs 12.5 crore in a seed funding round co-led by IAN Angel Fund and Rainmatter. Social Alpha, Full Circle Ventures, and existing investors Momentum Capital and Spectrum Impact also participated. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Bengaluru-based company produces low-carbon binders by upcycling industrial waste primarily from coal and steel sectors into cementitious materials that can replace up to 50% of the cement in concrete. The process requires no changes to existing plants or production workflows.
CarbonStrong claims its solution reduces both costs and carbon emissions while maintaining concrete performance. That matters because cement production alone accounts for over 8% of global CO₂ emissions, and most alternatives today can only substitute a small fraction of cement without compromising structural integrity.
The startup, founded in 2022 by Harsh Jain and Vikramaditya Singh, has already completed customer trials and paid pilots, with its materials used in demonstration projects across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

The fresh capital will go toward setting up a first production facility, team expansion, product development, and scaling from trials to commercial orders. CarbonStrong is targeting precast concrete and paver block manufacturers, aiming for an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes within two years.
For a global buyer or partner watching India's industrial decarbonisation space, CarbonStrong represents a dual-value proposition: a drop-in solution that doesn't demand plant retrofits, and a feedstock model built on abundantly available waste streams.
India's construction boom makes it one of the world's largest cement markets; material-carbon-reduction technology that slots into existing supply chains without friction has export potential well beyond the subcontinent.
The startup had previously raised Rs 3.6 crore in a pre-seed round in 2023 from Momentum Capital, Spectrum Impact, and other angels.
