Bangalore Watch Company raises $1.4M seed round from customers

Bangalore Watch Company has raised $1.4 million in seed funding from a group of its own customers. The round includes participation from family office principals and high-net-worth individuals based in India and overseas. Valuation and other deal terms were not disclosed.
The company makes mechanical watches in India, built around themes drawn from modern Indian stories: aviation, space, cricket, and the outdoors.
Founded in 2018 by Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj, BWC exports to more than 30 countries and sells watches priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh from its single flagship boutique in Bengaluru.
The corridor angle: proving India can export craft, not just code
BWC’s seed round matters because of who wrote the cheques, not just the amount. A customer-led raise signals early product conviction in a category where India has almost no export footprint.
The capital is earmarked for a physical push into two to three strategic overseas locations with established watch collector communities, plus potentially one additional India location.

BWC has already shown its watches can travel: it participated in Dubai Watch Week 2025 and Geneva Watch Days 2026, and its timepieces have been shortlisted for the GPHG Awards three times.
For a global buyer or partner watching the India-Gulf corridor, a Bengaluru brand with 30-country distribution, proprietary materials like Cerasteel, and watches built from recovered fighter-plane aluminium is not a novelty. It is an early signal that Indian craft manufacturing can compete on design provenance, not price.
BWC produces roughly 1,500 watches annually and plans to quadruple that capacity over the next three to five years.
A brand that funds expansion from its own customer base and then lands physical retail in collector-heavy markets is building something closer to a community-owned global house than a traditional consumer startup.
