Autonomous Delivery Vehicles in Saudi Arabia: Nero Gets Permit
Nero has received a permit to operate autonomous delivery vehicles in Saudi Arabia, with operations set to begin in Riyadh’s Al Falah district.
The permit allows Nero to run its delivery vehicles in public neighbourhoods. It marks a move from development and testing into operations in a real urban environment.
What Nero’s autonomous delivery vehicles do
Nero develops electric autonomous vehicles for short-distance delivery. Its model is designed to move groceries, food, and parcels from local stores or digital-order retailers to customers within the same area.
The company says its vehicles are built for complex urban environments and repeated deliveries within a limited geographic range. Its system combines the vehicles with sensing technology and a fleet-control centre that monitors vehicles, trips, deliveries, and performance indicators.

Nero’s official platform describes the vehicles as Level 4 autonomous systems, with a range of up to 120 kilometres per charge, payload capacity of up to 200 kilograms, and 360-degree sensing coverage.
Saudi Arabia’s autonomous vehicle regulations
The move also places the company within Saudi Arabia’s developing regulatory environment for autonomous vehicles. In June 2026, new provisions were added to the executive regulations of the traffic law covering responsibilities for vehicles operating without human intervention.
Saudi Arabia began an initial operational phase for autonomous vehicles in Riyadh in July 2025, including sites in Riyadh and King Khalid International Airport.
