Ataraxis AI's AI analyzes cancer cells to predict outcomes, reducing unnecessary chemotherapy

Ataraxis AI, a New York-based startup, is using artificial intelligence to determine whether aggressive treatments like chemotherapy are necessary.

While many AI-driven cancer solutions focus on early detection, Ataraxis aims to predict long-term cancer outcomes, potentially sparing patients from unnecessary chemotherapy and its severe side effects.

How Ataraxis AI uses AI for cancer treatment

Ataraxis AI’s model analyzes high-resolution images of cancer cells and has been trained on hundreds of millions of images from thousands of patients.

A recent study found that Ataraxis’ technology is 30% more accurate than the current standard for breast cancer care, according to the company.

Ataraxis AI raised the funding to support the commercial launch of its first test for breast cancer and expand into other cancers.

Ataraxis AI raises a $20.4 million Series A

The company raised a $20.4 million Series A led by AIX Ventures. Thiel Bio, Founders Fund, Floating Point, Bertelsmann, and existing investors Giant Ventures and Obvious Ventures also participated.

Ataraxis AI emerged from stealth last year. The company was co-founded by Jan Witowski and Krzysztof Geras, an assistant professor at NYU’s medical school specializing in AI. The company is positioning itself as a frontier AI company focused on healthcare applications. Meta’s chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, serves as an AI adviser.

Ataraxis AI’s cancer testing plans

Ataraxis AI aims for its tests to influence half of all new cancer cases by 2030.

Ataraxis AI has commercially launched its first breast cancer test.

In May 2024, Valar Labs raised $22 million to assist patients in determining treatment plans. Manas AI, co-founded by LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman, secured $24.6 million for AI-powered drug discovery in January 2025.

The funding comes amid a broader surge of investment in AI-driven cancer care startups.
