ASML India entry: Tata fab partnership explained
ASML’s India entry has begun with operations starting in the country and an initial plan to hire 20-30 young engineering graduates. The company disclosed the move at SEMICON India 2026, with its India scale-up linked to Tata Electronics’ semiconductor plans.
ASML India entry is tied to Tata’s Dholera fab
ASML Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Support Lin Kiat Yap said the company’s initial team would be “20-30 people” and that its growth would depend on “the ambitions of India” and “the ambitions of Tata.”
ASML’s India expansion is closely connected to Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. The companies signed a strategic partnership in May 2026 under which ASML will support the fab’s establishment and ramp-up with advanced lithography tools and solutions.
What ASML does
ASML makes the machines chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Its lithography technology helps create circuits on silicon wafers, enabling the production of more powerful, faster and energy-efficient chips.

The Tata partnership also covers local talent development, supply-chain resilience and research initiatives. Tata Electronics’ plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, and the company estimates it will require around 450 vendors. It is building 363 vendor parks to house them.
ASML backs Tata Electronics’ semiconductor ambitions
Tata Electronics’ ability to test and qualify the first 300 mm fab, achieve good quality and yield, and meet its schedule will be important.
“We want to make Tata successful because I think when people see Tata being a success, I think people will start to spend a little bit more time, be a little bit more focused in India and see the potential opportunities,” Yap said.
