Amazon Decart Acquisition Talks: What the $7B Deal Means

Amazon is in talks to acquire AI startup Decart for around $7 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report cited by The Economic Times on October 12, 2026. A deal could be reached soon, but the discussions remain subject to change.

What the Amazon Decart acquisition would add

The proposed acquisition would give Amazon access to technology that helps developers switch between different artificial intelligence chips. That capability is gaining importance as companies compete for computing power to develop and run AI models.

If completed at the reported valuation, the deal would rank among Amazon's largest acquisitions in recent years.

What Decart does

Decart is a San Francisco-based AI startup founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf, who are brothers, and Moshe Shalev. Its software enables developers to switch between different AI chips, potentially helping companies manage computing resources across hardware platforms.

Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May and has raised more than $400 million in venture capital funding from Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures, according to PitchBook, as cited by the Wall Street Journal.

Amazon's AI chip push

The potential acquisition comes as Amazon steps up efforts to strengthen its position in AI infrastructure and challenge Nvidia's dominance in the market for graphics processing units. Amazon has developed its own AI chips, including Trainium3, through its cloud computing business Amazon Web Services.

According to the Wall Street Journal, AWS gave Decart early access to its custom chip in 2025 after meeting the startup's founders.
